Solution proved for sterilising temperature probes in situ.

The successfull conclusion using 26 Series SSA200 temperature sensors with integral hermetically sealed connectors on their 100 litre Rütten Engineering fermentation flasks convinced the Serum Institute of India have specified a further 11 units for their

Although the SSA200 sensors only requires a single PT100 detector for operational purposes, the Serum Institute opted for duplex detector versions to ensure an uninterrupted process should a detector failure occurr.

The quick release plug and socket arrangement allows the SSA200 hermetically sealed connector to be left uncovered whilst the flasks are put through the sterilisation cycle.

All the wetted materials of construction are in 316L stainless steel including the 6 pin male connector body with the seal being provided by a glass based dielectric which resists upper temperatures of 260°C and pressures as high as 69 bar. This glass seal is unaffected by steam or water and the pins of the male connector are gold plated nickel.

The mating, quick release female connector is of the bayonet type and is manufactured in nickel plated aluminium. The signal transmission lead wires, which are Teflon insulated within a silicone rubber sleeve, are 3 metres in length and housed in a protective flexible conduit 7mm in diameter which is also in 316L stainless steel.
